Each workshop invites participants to explore traditional and contemporary techniques while connecting with the history and spirit of making at Four Mile.

Dog Days of Summer
August 23rd, 1pm
Celebrate the Dog Days of Summer with the artists of Bigger Table Art Collective and glaze your own dog (or cat) bowl at Four Mile Historic Park.
Choose from a variety of glaze options, learn new techniques from local pottery professionals and educators, and create your pet’s new favorite bowl. Dishwasher safe, handcrafted, and glazed by you!
This class is suitable for teens and up!
Cherokee Basket Weaving
August 30th, 11am
What to expect: The first 45 minutes will be spent learning about indigenous history and the tradition of Cherokee basketry. The instructor, Salix, will then bring learners into the hands-on portion of the class, starting with a demonstration on how to start, shape, and finish a basket. For the remainder of the class, students will shape and finish their own baskets to take home out of beautiful natural and dyed reeds. Plan to get your hands wet!
About the Instructor: Salix is Muscogee/Cherokee and white. They are a queer ‘two spirit’ artist, and not an Elder, but totally an ‘elder millennial’ lol. They moved to Cheyenne/Arapaho/Ute country (Denver) in Aug. 2022 from Kiowa territory and the homelands of many nations, Norman, OK. Salix learned Oklahoma round reed Cherokee basket weaving in Norman in 2017 from Kathy Haney (Seminole, Muscogee, Shawnee, Delaware, Kickapoo), and is eager to share that knowledge with students at Four Mile Historic Park. Weaving is an excellent way to be mindful and centered in community. Salix has a BFA in Studio Art from the University of OK, an MSW from the University of Pittsburgh, and is currently attending Iliff School of Theology.
Cheese 101

Join Certified Cheese Professional® and Cheesemonger, Kelly Liebrock, for this educational and tasty event at Four Mile Historic Park! You’ll learn to make a simple homemade cheese using minimal ingredients. Then, Kelly will take you on a guided cheese tasting where you’ll learn: The basic art and science of cheesemaking; all about milk – the fundamental building block of cheese; cheesemaking history and folklore; what makes cheeses different; and much more!
