Activities

Music They Carried: Learn about and listen to music from the 1800s.

Travel the Trail: Partake in a western prairie walk and learn about the many native plants and animals encountered in their daily lives.

Native American Life: Learn about some of the cultures and people who already inhabited the West.

Gold Panning/Prairie Games: Pan for gold just like the ‘59ers—your students, however, are guaranteed success! Play some games while you’re waiting your turn to pan!

Threads of the Past: How did people of the 1800s make their fabric? Students will learn about weaving and get to add a row to our weaving loom!

New for 2026: Theme Weeks! One partner organization a week will be bringing their knowledge of Colorado history to your students. (Schedule announced soon!)

All Wagon Wheels activities are led by Four Mile Historic Park staff, volunteers, and area organizations. In some cases there may be days when the gold panning station will be self-guided.
