Educational Programs


3. Winter Wonder Days



Please note: Teachers will lead their classrooms through the following activities:

Smaller Groups: Children rotate to three activity areas while enjoying the quiet beauty of Four Mile Historic Park in the wintertime.

Horse-drawn Sleigh Ride: Take a ride around the Park on either our prairie schooner or horse-drawn sleigh (weather permitting)! Offered only on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings –may be cancelled for weather and/or safety concerns.

Alternate to wagon activity:
(Tuesday and Thursday mornings)

Victorian Parlor Games: Try your hand at toys and games Victorian children played to entertain themselves during the winter months.

Woodstove-Baked Snack: Every program will include children of any age making a snack at our wood burning stove.

AGES 7 AND UNDER - Quilt craft: Glue small squares of pre-cut fabric onto paper to make a design from the colors and patterns of the fabric.

AGES 8 AND OLDER - Tin Punch Ornament: Create an ornament by piercing a design into an aluminum square.

Gold Panning: Pan for gold just like the '59ers – your students, however, are guaranteed success!

Footprints on the Trail: Create tracings of the animal tracks pioneers might have encountered on their trek west. See and feel some animal hides that correspond to the footprints.
